Hangry Privacy Policy

Consumer health data we collect
Hangry is an iMessage-based nutrition coach. To coach you, we collect:
- Phone number (your identifier with us). If you subscribe, our payment processor collects your email and payment details.
- Self-reported body data: weight, height, age, sex, goals
- Meal logs you send via text, photo, or voice
- Wearable data from devices you connect (Whoop, Oura, Fitbit, Withings, Apple Health): recovery, strain, sleep, heart rate, activity, weight
- Conversation history with the Hangry agent
How we use it
We use your data solely to: (a) generate personalized coaching messages, (b) compute calorie and protein targets, (c) detect adherence patterns, (d) detect when to back off or push, (e) measure and improve the product (for example, whether coaching gets used and whether people subscribe). We do not sell your data, do not use it to train third-party models, and never share your account, food, health or wearable data with advertisers.
Third parties that process your data
- Sendblue (iMessage delivery)
- Supabase (database)
- Vercel (hosting + cron)
- Google (Gemini AI for message generation and meal extraction)
- Stripe (payments)
- Your connected wearable providers (only when you authorize them)
- PostHog (product analytics: in-app events are keyed to an internal ID, never your phone number or message content; on our website it uses a cookie, your IP address and approximate location, and session recordings with form inputs masked)
Each is bound by their own privacy commitments. Wearable authorization tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256.
Our website
When you visit hangry.chat we use PostHog to measure visits and clicks. It sets a first-party cookie, receives your IP address (used for approximate location), and may record your session with form inputs masked. We don't collect your phone number on the website.
Our marketing pages also load the Meta Pixel, a third-party advertising tool. It sets a cookie and tells Meta that you visited, so we can show our ads to past visitors. It does not run on any page behind a link we text you (progress, subscription, account), never receives the address of one, and never receives anything from your account or coaching thread. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the pixel does not load. You can also manage ad preferences in your Meta account settings.
They also load the OpenAI Ads pixel, which sets a cookie and tells OpenAI that you visited after clicking one of our ads in ChatGPT, so we can measure what those ads cost. The same limits apply: marketing pages only, nothing from your account or coaching thread, and it does not load under a Global Privacy Control signal.

Washington My Health My Data Act
If you are a Washington State consumer, the data above qualifies as Consumer Health Data. We share it only with the processors listed above, for the purposes listed above, including product analytics. None of it goes to Meta, OpenAI or any other advertiser: the Meta and OpenAI Ads pixels described under “Our website” see visits to our marketing pages, not your account. We obtain affirmative opt-in during onboarding before processing any health data, do not use geofencing, and provide the access/delete rights above. To exercise WA-specific rights, email araychau@gmail.com.
Retention
Inactive accounts (no inbound messages for 2 years) are automatically purged.
Not medical advice
Hangry is an AI coaching tool. It is not a doctor, dietitian, or medical device. Don't use it as a substitute for licensed medical care.
